Operations

Recycling Services falls under the Utilities and Energy Services Department.  Recycling was started in 1990 as a pilot program in six buildings on campus collecting only white paper and aluminum. In 1991 the project was finally implemented as a campus-wide program, managed by the Physical Plant Department. Recycling Services currently operate in about 150 buildings with a monthly tonnage averaging 72. We collect the recyclables from all over the campus and deliver to a local processing facility. We currently collect: white paper, mixed paper, office mix (post-consumer), printer’s mix (pre-consumer), newspaper, cardboard, aluminum cans, plastic, and used computer ink and laser cartridges. We no longer ask that the paper be separated; all paper, uncontaminated, may be placed in the same collection bin.

Operations

Recycling:
There are two collection schedules provided depending on the amount of recyclables generated from the buildings on campus.

1. Route Schedule: this is mainly for those buildings with high product generation. The recycling employees collect up to three times a week from such buildings depending on how fast their containers are filled in a week.

2. “Call-in” Schedule: Provided to buildings with low to moderate product generation. The occupants may call Recycling Services whenever their containers need pick up. The numbers to call are (979) 862-2069 or the Recycling Hotline at (979) 845-7777.
